Sara Olalla Saad, PhD, University of Campinas & Hemocentro – Unicamp, Campinas, Brazil, discusses nuclear factor-erythroid 2 related factor (NRF2), which is persistently activated in many human tumors, including acute myeloid leukemia (AML). She highlights how the natural polyphenolic flavonoid coumpound quercetin can target this protein and induce apoptosis, a potential therapetic strategy. She explains how her group are persuing this therapeutic avenue. This interview took place at the American Society of Hematology (ASH) 2019 Annual Meeting and Exposition in Orlando, FL.
